Laser cutting produces a slight heat-affected zone on mild steel. For tight tolerances, talk to us about your part. Mild steel cuts cleanly across our full thickness range up to 3/8".
316 grade recommended for marine and chemical environments. Laser cutting works well but generates some heat discoloration near edges, which cleans up easily. 316 is the grade to pick over 304.
5052 is the more ductile of the two and resists cracking. 6061 machines and cuts exceptionally well. Note that 6061 can crack at tight bend radii; use 5052 for parts with multiple bends.
CRS has no mill scale, making it ideal for parts that will be painted, powder coated, or plated. Tighter dimensional tolerances than hot-rolled.
⚠️ Laser cutting galvanized steel produces zinc fumes — parts are cut with enhanced ventilation. Cut edges will lose zinc coating and should be treated with cold galv spray for outdoor use.
